Bridging Futures
Since the start of programming in Greece, in 2015, the IRC has provided support and protection services to people living in camps and urban settings. Directly, or in collaboration with partners, we have provided shelter, emergency supplies, safe transportation, access to water, sanitation and hygiene facilities, vital, reliable, and up-to-date information, protection for people with vulnerabilities, mental health and psychosocial support, as well as employability services to refugees, asylum-seekers and other vulnerable individuals in Greece. The proposed project aims to promote the collaboration and the exchange of knowledge and best practices with regards to the socioeconomic integration and promotion of self-sufficiency for former unaccompanied children with refugee backgrounds transitioning from adolescence to adulthood (18-23). During the project implementation, particular emphasis will be placed on topics such as inclusive education and aligning educational programs and language training with the specific needs of this target group, effective practices for securing housing during the transitional period, and methodologies that focus on developing socio-emotional skills in programs promoting employability for young adults. The results and deliverables will align with the National Strategy for Integration and the National Strategy for the Protection of Unaccompanied Minors, drafted by the General Secretariat for Vulnerable Citizens and Institutional Protection.
The project will involve collaboration between legal entities in Greece (IRC Hellas) and Norway (The municipality of Oslo’s Agency for Children and Welfare). This partnership will enhance multiculturalism and mutual understanding, improving the knowledge and skills of professionals working with young refugees during their transition to adulthood. Norway, known for its advanced systems of social integration and education for young refugees, will provide techniques and methods that Greece can utilize.
